SI Question and Statement
1. Can the same photograph(s) be viewed differently on whether they are characterized in color or in black-and-white?
2. For decades there has been an ongoing debate on whether or not colored photography is allowed to be considered as “fine art”. Many people and artist consider black-and-white photography to be the only candidate of fine art in the photography spectrum. I believe that all forms of photography should be considered “fine art” no matter how they are presented and expressed. In my sustained investigation portfolio, I am going to display two sets of the same photograph(s) and have one be expressed in color and the other in black-and-white. My process started with setting up an at home studio and having my sisters be the subjects of my photos. My goal was to connect their emotions and movements with what colors and items they were wearing. After that, I photoshopped all the photos to flow together in a layout. Because of the covid-19, worldwide pandemic, I had to change my sustained investigation from using a disposable camera for my material to using a digital camera. My original project was based around how the obsession of modern wealth and materialism is expressed in Los Angeles and my new project is more based on the history of fine art photography.
