My idea for the concentration is to show how identities can be distorted. My sustained
investigation is based on the idea of the invisible person. It is similar to the idea of looking at
your own reflection and seeing something differently than what others are seeing. I wanted to
show how people view themselves versus what is actually present. In the majority of my work, I
used mirrors to help create my reflections. At first, I was influenced by the idea to use mirrors to
create illusions. From there, my idea expanded into using mirrors and reflections. I purposely put
my images in black and white to create a gloomy and melancholy mood. In the foreground of the
photos, it shows how a person is presenting themselves to society. But in one of my photos,
rather than people I have a flower. For this, I used a mirror to demonstrate new versus old. In the
foreground, there is an old, wilted flower, but in the mirror, it shows a new blossomed flower. I
was going to try to replicate this image by using people, but it was unsuccessful. The mirror
shows another perspective or side that the person is feeling, or in some cases an illusion of
something that is not occurring.
