My question is “How has the development of Los Angeles distorted the natural environment?” In investigating this question, I experimented with several processes to show the environmental impact of developing LA. These included printing on recycled materials, painting on developer, and printing on metal. Although these processes helped portray my message, they ended up inspiring me to use digital editing to mimic their alterations, which provided a more clear message. For example, in the photo with a series of buildings and a desert landscape, I portrayed how LA is built upon a desert and how in building this city, the desert has been destroyed. LA is not viewed as a desert landscape, but rather a cityscape. Using this digital editing approach, I continued to portray changes to the environment by comparing two or more contrasting images, which included at least one of the natural world and one of human interference. I faded the image incorporating the human impact on the environment in order to emphasize LA’s impact. LA pollutes trash, the air, and distorts the natural architecture of the world to build its own. In constructing LA we have destructed the natural environment.
