My question: How can Hispanic teens today incorporate older traditions of the culture into their
lives? The main idea of my Sustained investigation demonstrates the modern representation of
Hispanic-American teenagers.
Prior to beginning working on my sustained investigation, I was comfortable working with black
and white, focusing on shadows, lighting, and contrast. I explored my photoshop skills and use
of color through my process. The main goal for my sustained investigation was to make a newer
version of the Loteria cards with a modern twist of using Hispanic teenagers as the subject. My
process began with choosing the cards that I could immediately picture creating a photograph
with. Many of my photos incorporated the aesthetic of the card with the subject. In image 1, the
subject is in front of a background that reflects light to represent the stars with a blue tint like the
original background of the card. My process did change as the pandemic occurred and I had to
use Facetime to take my photos. I used Facetime live photo to take the photo and I imported the
photo to Lightroom and Photoshop and began to merge my layers of the physical Loteria card
and the Facetime photo.
